Sir William Alexander Smith founded the pioneer uniformed group organisation, The Boys' Brigade on 4 October 1883 Glasgow, Scotland.

The first BB Company in Singapore was established in 1930 by Mr James Milner Fraser, to fulfill the need to engage Boys in meaningful and purposeful activities.

The Boys' Brigade was the first Uniform youth organisation
in the world. From a small company of 35 Boys, it has grown into a worldwide organisation with Companies in over 60 countries.

Following the impact of The Boys' Brigade, other uniform organisation were started - Church Lad's Brigade(1890), Boys Life Brigade (1899), Girls Life Brigade(1902, Boys Scouts (1908) and the Girls Guide (1910) etc... All these organisation can trace the idea of uniformed youth back to 1883 and William Smith.
